Layar on 3 in 4 global smartphones by 2011!

Following Layar’s one year anniversary, news came about that growth of the Layar Reality browser app will soon be readily available for tens of millions of smartphone users.

Partnerships with LG, Samsung, TCT Mobile and a yet unnamed Chinese handset manufacturer will see the app pre-installed on these devices by the start of next year, with more major players joining the ranks yet to be announced.

Figures from Layar indicate a user-base of 2.2 million, with over 700,000 using the app in the last month.

Other announcements regarding the next major release will see a handful of new features including Floaticons, which will add a new ‘live’ layer to social networking with each Floaticon having a message left by a user, but with a limited life-span. To keep them alive, users need to feed them ‘cookies’ – see what they did there!
